This is the blog for the Phoenix Mental Health Collective which is inspired by theicarusproject.net. During increasingly stressful economic, social, and political times, the collective aims to provide a safe space for discussion and resource sharing centered around mental wellness. This group promotes a radical perspective, but recognizes a variety of approaches in regards to individual experience. We believe that we should empower each other to take charge of our sanity. There are other maps of mental health other than the ones we are handed by families, schools, televisions, and doctors.

We meet every Sunday at 1:30 at Conspire Phoenix. Conspire is located at 901 N. 5th Street in Downtown Phoenix.

Also, this blog is open for all to contribute. If you would like to contribute please email your interest to haveyoulostyourmindPHX@gmail.com.

The Icarus Project

The following link will take you to The Icarus Project web page, which was the inspiration for this collective. It was specifically very inspiring to me and led me to change my entire perspective on treating my own mental illness:  http://theicarusproject.net/

Also, here are the projects three most popular publication downloads, which I also found to be helpful. These downloads are all free:

- Navigating the Space Between Brilliance and Madness link
- Harm Reduction Guide To Coming off Psychiatric Medications link
- Friends Make The Best Medicine Support Manual Draft link

"Navagating the Space Between Brilliance and Madness" discusses bipolar disorder specifically. It includes personal stories, alternative remedies that have worked for some, and discussions on deviating from accepted cultural pathways to create your own map.

"Harm Reduction Guide to Coming off Psychiatric Medications" has a title that explains its content. It discusses the dangers of coming off medication and ways to overcome these difficulties if you do decide to leave your medication. It provides both sides to the medication debate, acknowledging that coming off medication may not be for everyone, while suggesting that is may be for some.

“Friends Make The Best Medicine” is about creating mental health support networks within your community, such as the Phoenix Mental Health Collective!

I hope you find these links helpful.
